Nitrogen Refrigerator Membrane Technology

With the rapid advancement of modern technology and the increasing consumer demand for food freshness, traditional refrigerator preservation methods based solely on "low temperature + humidity" have begun to show limitations. In recent years, nitrogen-based preservation technology has become a focal point due to its significant antioxidant and antibacterial effects. Among various approaches, membrane-based nitrogen separation has gained particular favor for its high efficiency, energy savings, and stable performance.

Membrane-based nitrogen separation is based on the principle of membrane separation. When a mixture of two or more gases passes through a polymer membrane, differences in solubility and diffusion coefficients among the gases result in different permeation rates. Under a pressure difference across the membrane, gases with faster permeation rates—such as water vapor, oxygen, and carbon dioxide—are enriched on the permeate side, while gases with slower permeation rates—such as nitrogen, carbon monoxide, and argon—are enriched on the retentate side, thereby achieving gas separation. When pressurized clean air is used as the feed gas, inert gases like nitrogen are enriched to produce a high-purity nitrogen stream, while the permeate side discharges oxygen-enriched air. Compared with cryogenic separation and pressure swing adsorption (PSA), membrane-based nitrogen enrichment offers advantages such as simple operation and continuous, stable performance.

Compared with traditional temperature- and humidity-controlled preservation methods, membrane-based nitrogen separation uses hollow fiber membranes made of specialized polymer materials. By exploiting the difference in permeation rates between oxygen and nitrogen molecules, it directly separates high-purity nitrogen (purity up to 99.5% or higher) from ambient air.
