Oxygen-Enriched Air Conditioning Membrane Technology

Nowadays, air quality is closely linked to people‘s health and quality of life. With the rapid advancement of technology, oxygen-enriched air conditioning membrane technology, as an innovative technology, can not only effectively increase the oxygen content in indoor air but also bring a range of health and environmental benefits, creating a healthier and more comfortable indoor environment for people.

While cooling or heating, traditional air conditioners can lead to poor indoor air circulation, rising carbon dioxide concentrations, and decreasing oxygen levels. Prolonged exposure to such an environment may cause various physical discomforts and harm health. Conventional oxygen production often relies on chemical agents or large-scale equipment, which is not only costly but also complex to operate.

Membrane-based oxygen separation technology is based on the principle of membranebased oxygen enrichment, i.e., utilizing the different permeation rates of various components in air through a membrane. Driven by a pressure difference, oxygen in the air preferentially passes through the membrane to produce oxygen-enriched air. This technology uses the selective permeability difference of dense polymer membranes to nitrogen and oxygen to effectively separate oxygen and nitrogen from air. Oxygen-enriched air is obtained on the low-pressure side (permeate side) of the membrane, while oxygen-depleted (or nitrogen-enriched) air is obtained on the high-pressure side (retentate side). The entire process involves no phase change and requires neither high nor low temperatures, resulting in low energy consumption and low cost.

Membrane-based oxygen separation technology is mainly applied in industrial and commercial settings where ultra-high purity oxygen is not required, such as oxygen-enriched air conditioning, oxygen-enriched combustion, small-scale civilian oxygen concentrators, and oxygen-enriched aquaculture. Among these, oxygen-enriched air conditioning has become a highly attractive application area in recent years. By integrating an oxygen-enrichment membrane into the air conditioning system, the oxygen concentration of the air passing through the membrane can be increased to about 30%, thereby raising the indoor oxygen level.

Compared with traditional oxygen production methods, oxygen-enrichment membranes rely on advanced polymer membrane separation technology and offer the following distinct advantages:

Low energy consumption and low cost: Oxygen-enrichment membrane technology utilizes the selective permeability difference of dense organic polymer membranes to nitrogen and oxygen. Under a pressure difference across the membrane, oxygen in the air preferentially passes through the membrane to produce oxygen-enriched air. The entire separation and concentration process involves no phase change and requires neither high nor low temperatures, as it operates at ambient temperature. Therefore, it features low energy consumption and low cost, making it an economical separation method.

Simple operation and simple equipment: The operation of oxygenenrichment membrane technology is relatively straightforward and does not require complex equipment or process flows. This makes the technology more flexible and convenient for practical applications.

Environmentally friendly and pollution-free: During the membrane-based oxygen enrichment process, bacteria and dust in the air are blocked by the membrane and cannot pass through. As a result, the oxygen-enriched air produced is very pure, sterile, and non-toxic. Moreover, the technology causes no pollution to the environment during its operation, meeting the green and environmentally friendly requirements of modern industry.

Wide range of applications: Oxygen-enrichment membrane technology is currently mainly used in industrial and commercial settings where ultra-high purity oxygen is not required, such as oxygen-enriched air conditioning, oxygen-enriched combustion, small-scale civilian oxygen concentrators, and oxygen-enriched aquaculture.
